My translation business, Expressive English, is an excellent way of combining my interests in writing and languages with my experiences of both Swedish and English cultures. Moreover it presents a challenging way of keeping abreast of current developments in a variety of fields. I am particularly interested and versed in History, Sociology, Gender studies, Agriculture, Religion, Archaeology and Public Affairs. My customers include the Municipality of Gotland, Gotland University, the County Board of Administration, the Diocese of Visby and numerous other companies and private persons who require the use of English in their commercial or private affairs.
English as mother tongue, fluent Swedish and some knowledge of French.
Expressive English (Swedish to English freelance translator) 1997-present
As an independent freelancer, I deal chiefly with translations, language checking and proof-reading for direct customers. Some examples of translations I have done include academic research texts within the areas of history, sociology, gender studies, agriculture, religion, archaeology, as well as tourist information, websites, mm. I have even translated two books, “Muramaris, the love story” and “The Truffle Book”. Two major language-check projects have been Viking Heritage Magazine (quarterly) for six years and “Conflict and Compromise” a historical work by Professor Nils Blomquist, Gotland University.
English teacher 1978-present
After moving here from Canada, I taught numerous evening courses in English for adults during my first 10 years on Gotland. In spring 2000 I was hired by Humanus to teach business English at Faktab Finans as well as two courses in practical English for the employees of Kalkproduktion AB- Storugns. Presently I work part-time as a mother language teacher for primary and pre-school children.
